William Sidney Mount was an American painter, born in Setauket, New York. He studied at the National Academy of Design, New York City, and was made a full academician in 1832. He painted portraits, including one of Daniel Webster, but is best known for his many skillful genre pictures and landscapes. Examples of his work are Eel Spearing at Setauket (1845, New York State Historical Association, Cooperstown) and Bargaining for a Horse (1835, New-York Historical Society, New York City).
